After careful consideration over the last few months, the Board of Directors has decided that the Harris County Healthcare Alliance has served its purpose and should come to an end.  We are very proud of the many successes the Alliance has been able to achieve since its inception and believe that the Alliance has played an important role in facilitating collaboration in the healthcare community. Thank you all for the work you have been a part of these past years in helping create a stronger and more cohesive healthcare system throughout Houston and Harris County.

Forum on Texas 1115 Medicaid Transformation Waiver and Local Projects

Join  us on October 15th to hear representatives from the Texas Health & Human Services Commission—Ardas Khalsa, Director of Transformation Waiver Operations, and Andres Guariguata, Senior Policy Advisor—will focus on physical and behavioral issues. A panel of local providers and stakeholders will follow, discussing their work on waiver projects and how this is trsnsforming relationships at the local and regional levels.

83rd Texas Post-Legislative Conference Brought ACA into Focus

The 83rd Texas Post-Legislative Conference, held September 30 at United Way of Greater Houston,  was well attended with over 180 participants, as well as media interviews by KPRC NBC-2, Univision, KUHF 88.7 and FM 92. The event featured Marjorie McColl Petty, the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Director of Region VI (AR, LA, NM, OK, TX), who discussed information on the remaining provisions of the ACA in Texas and across the country on the eve of the rollout. Other key speakers included Senator Tommy Williams, Chair of the Texas Senate Committee on Finance, providing an overview of the 83rd legislative session, and Ross Ramsey, Texas Tribune’s executive editor and co-founder, discussing the role of the media in the legislative process.

HCHA Helps Mobile Unit Take Mammography on the Road


The women of Houston and Harris County have recently gained an important resource for accessing better care in the fight against breast cancer. A brand new mobile mammography van was launched at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Approximately 50 people attended the event at The Rose, where the mobile unit is housed. The ribbon was cut by Anne Whitlock of Harris County Healthcare Alliance. Anne manages community projects as part of The Community Clinic Funders' Collaborative (CCFC), which provided funding for the van.

The project, called the Community Care Collaborative Project (CCCP), brought together various community clinics to share the mobile mammography van and its program care coordinator. It increases access to affordable mammography screenings, diagnostic follow up, and treatment for uninsured women in Greater Houston, providing up to 3,500 screenings.
