After careful consideration over the last few months, the Board of Directors has decided that the Harris County Healthcare Alliance has served its purpose and should come to an end.  We are very proud of the many successes the Alliance has been able to achieve since its inception and believe that the Alliance has played an important role in facilitating collaboration in the healthcare community. Thank you all for the work you have been a part of these past years in helping create a stronger and more cohesive healthcare system throughout Houston and Harris County.

Four Alliance Members Awarded Over $3 Million

HHS Encourages Access to Care by Helping New Clinics Open Doors

Congratulations are in order for four HCHA members who received New Access Point (NAP) Awards in 2013 as announced by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The four community health clinics—Busy Bee Wellness Center, Spring Branch Community Health Center, Houston Area Community Services (HACS), and Central Care Community Health Center—have been awarded funding totaling $3,020,834, which will be renewed in 2014 in support of new health care delivery sites for areas where patients are under-served and uninsured.

The new clinics are strategically located to reach populations with limited transportation or other obstacles to receiving healthcare, such as language or socio-economic barriers. Following an initial round of awards announced on September 13, another round was announced November 7 to include the following HCHA-member clinics:

Houston's Leaders Collaborate for Historic Day in Health Care

City of Houston Press Conference Marks Opening Day of ACA Enrollment

The city of Houston held a press conference to mark the first day of open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace on Tuesday, October 1, to recognize the historic significance of the Affordable Care Act. State Senator Rodney Ellis and Houston Mayor Pro-tem Ed Gonzalez were joined by leaders from numerous community organizations to show solidarity in support of the healthcare initiative. The organizations, referred to as the Gulf Coast Health Insurance Marketplace Collaborative are working together to get out the word about enrollment, including Houston Department of Health & Human Services, Harris County Healthcare Alliance, One Voice Texas, Change Happens, Enroll America, Gateway to Care, Harris County Area Agency on Aging, Harris Health System, Houston Area Urban League, Memorial Hermann Health System, Texans Together, Texas Organizing Project, Vecino Health Centers and others.
