83rd Texas Post-Legislative Conference Brought ACA into Focus

The 83rd Texas Post-Legislative Conference, held September 30 at United Way of Greater Houston,  was well attended with over 180 participants, as well as media interviews by KPRC NBC-2, Univision, KUHF 88.7 and FM 92. The event featured Marjorie McColl Petty, the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Director of Region VI (AR, LA, NM, OK, TX), who discussed information on the remaining provisions of the ACA in Texas and across the country on the eve of the rollout. Other key speakers included Senator Tommy Williams, Chair of the Texas Senate Committee on Finance, providing an overview of the 83rd legislative session, and Ross Ramsey, Texas Tribune’s executive editor and co-founder, discussing the role of the media in the legislative process.

Organized by One Voice Texas and the Harris County Healthcare Alliance, the conference was titled Building a Stronger Community: Advocates for High Quality Health and Human Services. The afternoon offered two workshop sessions with a wide range of breakout topics.
